Spice It Up With a Lil Reggaeton
Discovering more about J Balvin a renowned artist for his Latin music.

If I had to describe him in one word, I would have to say he is colorful. From his personality to his music, he displays all the colors of the rainbow. His songs get you up and dancing without any hesitation. Plus his visually stunning and bright costumes are a total eye candy to the audience. His sweet and loving character completes the whole puzzle.

José Álvaro Osorio Balvín, is a Colombian reggaeton singer, he is called the “Príncipe del Reggaetón” meaning the “Prince of Reggaeton”. He went to the United States to learn English at 17, but after a time he returned back home and started to pursue his music career. He started working without a record label and during that period he released many songs with his DJ and business partner David Rivera Mazo. Eventually, his breakthrough came with his songs “Ginza” and “6 AM”.
Albums

He has put out four studio albums up until now, La Familia, Energia, Vibras, and lastly Colores in 2020. In 2019, he put out a collaborative album Oasis with Bad Bunny, Bad Bunny in a statement to SPIN described it as,
“a transcendental and refreshing album”.
They previously collaborated on Cardi b’s single “I Like It”, in 2018. In his latest album Colores, the name of the tracks are the name of colors except “Arcoiris”, the Spanish term for rainbow.
Songs
J. Balvin - Reggaeton
This song may seem monotonous but the simple beat doesn't suppress his vocals and blends seamlessly with his voice. He is trying to emphasize how he is going to keep on making reggaeton music and give what people want in the lyrics, and he delivers with his chill and reggae music.
DJ Snake, J. Balvin, Tyga — Loco Contigo
His collaborations with western artists are some of my favorites, as I previously mentioned in my Dua Lipa blog about their song UN DIA. The catchy hook doesn't feel repetitive no matter how many times you have heard it. It's a laid-back summer song.
ROSALÍA, J Balvin — Con Altura ft. El Guincho
The 35-year-old musician's collaboration on Con Altura breaks urban music stereotypes with the touch of contemporary music. Rosalia describes this song in a press release as,
“ an homage to the more classic and original reggaeton: reggaeton playero,”.
Istanbul Concert

I have been to one of his concerts which was taken place in Istanbul in 2019. The concert was like a festival many local artists performed prior to him, he was the closing act. Although it was brief he tried his best to engage with the audience and performed most of his hit songs.
When you think about Latin music, J Balvin clearly dominates that category, it's a no-brainer. His music entertains people and makes them go delirious, it excites them. And lastly just want to say congratulations to him and his girlfriend who are expecting their first baby.
