The glam rock band, are capturing viewers' interest with their latest winning performance.

For decades numerous phenomenal rock bands and groups have gone by but I found it really hard to find the right one. It was really difficult to choose one as there were many incredible rock songs. But a few weeks ago a new and impressive group was introduced to us. The Eurovision 2021 winners, Måneskin. Their astonishing performance and stage presence blew the viewer's mind. They impressed millions with their raw talent and sassy performance.

The band already had an experience of some sort in such competitions. As they were in second place in the eleventh season of the Italian talent show called X Factor in 2017. Through that, they rose to fame, but initially, they started by performing on the streets. The four-member band is comprised of the main singer Damiano David, drummer Ethan Torchio, guitarist Thomas Raggi, and bassist Victoria De Angelis. They first met each other when they were students at the same high school in Monteverde, Rome. They decided to start a band in 2016. The band’s name was decided to be Måneskin which means(“moonlight”) when they had to register for a local music contest. While brainstorming, De Angelis, who is half Danish, was asked by her bandmates to say some random Danish words, and they agreed on Måneskin. The name does not contain a particular meaning behind it but through that contest, they started writing their own songs. After that competition, they hit it off and started performing live concerts in many various places across Europe.

Albums

The band has released two studio albums called Il ballo della vita and Teatro d’ira: Vol. I, one extended-play, and eight singles.

Il ballo della vita 2018

Their debut studio album Il ballo della vita was released on 26 October 2018 and topped the Italian album charts. The album title means “celebration of youth, of freedom”. This album contains 12 tracks and the whole album is mainly influenced by pop-rock, funk, reggae, and ska. The inspiration for this album came from Led Zeppelin, Arctic Monkeys, Harry Styles, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Bruno Mars. For this album, they created and invented a fictional character. The fictional person was their muse and that muse was their medium for their message of freedom of choice, of attitude, and of style.

The album Teatro d’ira: Vol. was released on 19 March 2021. The name of the album translates to “theatre of wrath” and was entirely composed by the members. Album consists of 8 tracks and is my favorite album of them. In this album, in particular, I noticed that it had some rapping bits in the songs. I believe it added a different flavor to the songs because it was unique. Normally, in rock songs, the range of the song is what the highlight and climax are but in this album, the speedy flow was the attraction.

Songs

Zitti E Buoni

The song Zitti E Buoni which translates to “Shut Up and Be Quiet”, means a wave of anger, or rage transforming into something positive, and evidently leading to changing things. The singer of the band Damiano explained the meaning behind the song in an interview with wiwibloggs at the Eurovision rehearsals,

“A statement of what we wanna do, that we are ready to play our music, don't care what people are going to say and that we are authentic and also send a message to everybody to be yourself.”

I Wanna Be Your Slave

This song's lyrics are completely in English and the meaning behind the song is about how you have fallen madly in love with someone and would even enslave yourself to them to win them over. The band posted on their Instagram account about the song and it translates to,

“Sex, in all its forms and from every angle, the antinomy that lives in all of us and makes us human, imperfect, sinful and in need of redemption.”

In this video, the song is performed live so every ounce of live vocals can be enjoyed and appreciated.

CORALINE

The song starts all smooth and tender with Damiano's vocals, and as the song progresses, and comes to the mid-section there is a slight pause, where it continues with aggressive strings, drums, and singing taking place. At the outro, there is again a pause and the intro part is repeated with soft vocals. The song is really emotional, CORALINE is a metaphor for a little girl who is representing the group. In their path of becoming artists, they sacrificed their youth and normal lives. People have treated them ruthlessly, they insulted them and spat their hatred. The band was afraid of this part of their journey to achieving their dreams.

I am a huge Eurovision obsessed viewer but to this day I have not experienced such widespread publicity for a winner. Måneskin brought something else, from their style to their presence, it was jaw-dropping. Their fame will surely last long as they said they are authentic, and people adore originality.
