She is swirling the world around with her addictive rap bars that go viral on TikTok daily.

Doja Cat also known as Amala Ratna Zandile Dlamini is an American singer, rapper, and songwriter. She is widely known for creating music videos and songs that achieve popularity on social media platforms and applications such as TikTok and YouTube. The artist is also famous for her controversial song lyrics, insensitive music videos, and tweets. After many criticisms and backlash, she is still establishing a name in the industry with her catchy songs.

The 25-year-old artist began her career by making and releasing music on SoundCloud when she was a teenager. She self-taught herself to sing, rap, and use applications to record herself. She signed a joint record deal at the age of 17 with Kemosabe Records and RCA Records, as her song “So High” caught their attention. In 2014, she released her debut EP Purrr!. After a hiatus of almost 4 years, she released her debut studio album called Amala in 2018. She became viral when an internet meme of her single “Mooo!” was a hot topic on Twitter. Her collaborations with various famous artists made her gain even more success. Her single “Say So”, topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart with the release of a remix featuring done with Nicki Minaj.

Albums

Doja Cat has released 2 studio albums, 1 extended play, and in March 2021, she told to V Magazine that her third studio album was “nearly done”. In the interview, Doja Cat also revealed the album’s official title, which is Planet Her, and its expected release is to be in summer 2021.

Amala (2018)

Amala is her debut studio album, unfortunately, it didn't get the attention of the critics. Doja Cat acknowledged the album's failure as she didn't believe it was a “finished album”, the reason could be due to her excessive use of marijuana during its recording. However, when the deluxe version of the album was released it helped her to breakthrough with the additional singles, “Juicy”, “Tia Tamera”, and “Mooo!”.

Hot Pink (2019)

Hot Pink is the second studio album and contains 12 tracks. The album is my favorite album of hers. The songs that are in the album introduced me to her and helped me appreciate her music. The album is a mix of pop and R&B containing elements of funk and soul. After two months of release, the album peaked at number nine on the US Billboard 200, it also peaked in the top 40 of 12 other countries.

Songs

Streets

Personally, one of my top three songs of hers. After the intro part of the song is over an immediate intense beat hits. And this melancholic R&B song transfers into a very sexual vibe. After that, her smooth and light voice texture transitions to a more rough and tough rap part. The lyrics are about her past relationships and the hustle she went through, I felt it was quite relatable.

Tia Tamera ft. Rico Nasty

The song hits off with an overwhelming bass with a satisfactory drop. The base is going on throughout the song but the unexpected pauses add intensity to the sound. The trap song lyrics are vulgar, raunchy, and rebellious, but very much addictive. Doja Cat’s section is based on her particular body part which is her breasts and Rico’s rap part is on boasting of her bank account.

Kiss Me More ft. SZA

This song will feature on her upcoming third studio album, Planet Her. This fast-tempo disco-influenced pop and R&B song is very groovy. The song is a little more diverse than what Doja Cat normally does. For an article in V Magazine, SZA talks about the song,

“I know our little ditty ‘Kiss Me More’ is a different strut and I’m just excited,”

and to that Doja Cat responded,

“I’ve always wanted to try things. I commend artists, like you, who stick to something. It feels pleasing aesthetically and very driven.”

Doja Cat is an extraordinary artist who has her own sound and brings diversity to her songs, style, and fashion. She creates music that is enjoyed by many people and mutually. Her upcoming studio album is anticipated to bring amazing summer hits.
